...from the press... Taken from The Dallas Morning News Tuesday, June 30, 1998 Bill Bowen, who's been making Bill's Channel Catfish Bait for more than 40 of his 51 years, said the secret is more in the blending than the ingredients. "There are some things I don't tell anybody", he said. He makes a lot of it and sells it by the jar from coast to coast. "I'll run close to 2000 cases in a good year", he said. Mr. Bowen said it takes a special person to live next door to a catfish bait maker. He made the bait at home for a few years, until his business began to grow. "I got into it on a bigger scale and had to go out into the country" he said. "It takes good neighbors to make something like that." There's a price to pay for being a bait maker, Mr. Bowen said. For one thing, he never married. "That might be a reason", he said. If there is a conflict between match-making and bait making, marriage is for the other guy. "I got real, real close to it", he said. That said, he'd rather go fishing. NOTE: Bill's Catfish Bait is "sold by the jar" at retail bait shops. Ordering directly from Bill's Catfish Bait you can order in either a 4-pack or 12-pack case. |
